FIRST IMPRESSIONS ART EXHIBIT SHOWCASES RENOVATED ARTS CENTER
    September 12- October 3

The Barbizon School. Romanticism. Impressionism. Post-Impressionism.
These art movements and more are represented in First Impressions, which
begins on September 12 at the Hammond Regional Arts Center.  Landscapes,
seascapes, gardens, and portraits by Jean-Baptiste Corot, Paul Renard,
Hippolyte Petitjean, Charles John Dickman, and other French, German,
American, British, Irish, and Dutch artists are among the works on display
in this stunning new exhibit of over 30 oils and watercolors from the
personal collection of local community leader Tim Lantrip.

Although the paintings themselves are spectacular, the stories held secret
by each painting are equally compelling. One piece, in a rare gilded frame,
once hung in the Louvre. Works from particular schools of art shows
influences of others, providing a fascinating panoply of over one hundred
years of European and American art.

The Arts Center is celebrating its recent renovation with a gala reception
on Friday, September 12 from 6:00-9:00 p.m. to coincide with the opening of
First Impressions. On Sunday, September 14 at 2:00p.m., Dr. Irene Nero, art
historian and Assistant Professor of Visual Arts at Southeastern Louisiana
University, will discuss the collection in the context of the time period
and reveal tell-tale signs of particular movements.
This exhibition is Sponsored in part by Fidelity Homestead Savings Bank,
First Guaranty Bank and Florida Parishes Bank.
Schools can arrange field trips by contacting Joseph France at 985-542-7113.
